About timber windows
Timber or uPVC?
Real timber looks and feels like the original windows in older homes, can be repaired rather than replaced if part of it is damaged, and is often the only option a listed building will be allowed. It costs more than uPVC and needs repainting or re-staining every few years. uPVC costs less and needs almost no upkeep, and woodgrain or timber look uPVC can come close in appearance, but it is a different material. If the house is listed or sits in a conservation area, check with the council before choosing.

Looking after timber windows
