French doors in Surrey

A pair of French doors opens the full width of the frame onto the garden. It is a classic look that suits period and modern homes alike, and it works where there is no room for a bifold to fold back.

We supply and fit French doors across Surrey in uPVC and aluminium, including Smart aluminium French doors and the Renaissance 7 range. Every pair is made to measure for its opening and installed by our own experienced fitters.

Both leaves open, so the doorway is completely clear when you want it, and with nothing to stack or slide they suit narrower openings and smaller patios. Choose from a wide range of colours, glazing and handles, with multi-point locking as standard.

We are FENSA registered, and every installation we notify to FENSA is covered by an insurance-backed guarantee.

About French doors

French doors and French windows

A French window is a tall casement that reaches down to the floor and opens like a door. Today most people call a pair of glazed doors opening onto the garden French doors, and the two names describe much the same thing. Both leaves usually open, and the second leaf is held shut by bolts at the top and bottom when only one is in use.

Where French doors work best

French doors suit openings that are too narrow for bifold doors to make sense, smaller patios where there is no room for panels to stack, and period homes where a traditional pair of doors looks right. Opening inwards suits a balcony or a tight space outside, and opening outwards keeps the room clear inside.

Matching the rest of the house

We fit French doors in uPVC and aluminium, so they can match the windows around them in colour and frame style. Smart aluminium French doors and the Renaissance 7 range are among those we have fitted, including alongside a Smart Visoglide sliding door on the same house.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose French doors or bifold doors?

French doors suit a narrower opening, and because both leaves swing open they need no space to stack. Bifolds suit a wide opening you want to clear completely. For a narrower opening, French doors are usually the simpler choice.

Do French doors open inwards or outwards?

They can be made to open either way. Outward opening is the more common choice because the doors take up no room inside, while inward opening suits a balcony or a tight patio. We will talk it through when we measure.
